WELCOME TO THE CAMPEONES OPEN – BILBAO 2024

We are Costa Verde Golf the expert local destination management company (DMC) in northern Spain proudly presenting our junior Campeones Open via our amazing golf circuit product of Campeones.

Our prestigious event will be hosted by Meaztegi golf course in Bilbao northern Spain from the 28 to 30 May 2024. Playing on Seve Ballesteros’ magnificent golf design in the Basque mountains near his home in Santander. Our spectacular championship course is now in the final two courses in Spain set to host the 2031 Ryder Cup! That’s the quality of play that awaits all junior players!

The event will be an international stroke play & pairs tournament with four leagues available to compete in: 27 May warm up day and the tournament days from the 28 to 30 May. The very best England national players are already registered and we hope all of Europe will take up the challenge to compete against them, without doubt some of these English juniors will become great professional champions in the future. That’s the quality of field.

The lush green coast of northern Spain – the Costa Verde is a land to be discovered, with grand mountain backdrops where the rolling green valleys and forests descend to meet our golden beaches at the ocean shore line and into the blue surfing mecca of the Bay of Biscay sea.

Meaztegi is also the home of Jon Rahm Golf For Kids academy, on Jon’s boyhood home course near his home just outside of Bilbao. And a course that regularly welcomes Jose Maria Olazábal onto her fairways from his home just east of Bilbao near to San Sebastián.

Hence why our region is nicknamed the Land Of Legends as from Seve, José María and Jon Rahm our local global golf champions from the Costa Verde, between them proudly bringing home to us 9 Major golf wins, including 5 Masters green jackets! At the event the legacy of golf in our region will change the competing players approach to their golf game as they learn and play in our legends footsteps.

During the event at the putting green we will be holding the European Putting Championship (EPC). A great event for all the family, friends & players to come together for some fun competition together on the 28 & 29 May at Meaztegi Golf.

After the event from Friday 30 May we will offer an incredible opportunity for all players & parents/guardians/friends to enter The Masters Green Jacket Challenge Tour playing on Seve Ballesteros’ Somo beach where he taught himself to be the most exciting short game golfer the world has ever known. Then playing Seve’s 9 hole design course at his home of Real Pedrena. Followed the next day by playing on Jon Rahm’s 6 hole par 3 course at The Home of Jon Rahm, Larrabea Golf Club. With the final 3 holes being played in the great finale in the Basque mountains at Uraburu Golf the spectacular home course design of José María Olazábal. At the event daily seminars about the history of golf in northern Spain and our new junior training & competition golf circuit ‘Campeones’ will offer kids all around Europe and the world in the future. Set to rival the USA’s prestigious golf programs. As well as what our amazing land can offer the world in tourism and other outdoor activities in Spain’s playground, seminars in the club house will be available on 28 & 29 May at the tournament.

In our first year we hope to see many nations represented by their junior boys & girls. We have carefully selected a great area for the players village in Portugalete just outside of Bilbao with great hotels to stay in, on a stunning riverside location. All this will enhance the experience of the tournament visitors. Turning the visit into an amazing family & friends vacation of a lifetime and also whilst supporting their loved ones progress playing in the tournament.
